Wrapping up the last race in home waters for the season, the Collins Cup is a great time to come out and support the crew!
UCI Rowing will host a “Learn to Row” program for the kids from Nicholas Academic Center (NAC). As you know, Dr. Henry T. Nicholas, III is our largest benefactor as well as one of the founders of the Academic Center. The NAC offers a free mentoring and academic program for underserved, inner-city students to build their abilities as they prepare for college. The program starts at 9 am and you are all welcome to drop by and lend your support.
UCI Crew is sending a boat to the Henley Royal Regatta for the first time in nearly 40 years! All the details are on the Henley website linked here.
Cheer on the Women's Crew in Long Beach this Fall! Known to the locals as the “Pancake Regatta”, The Naples Island College Rowing Challenge, or NICRC for short, is an annual regatta hosted by the Beach Crew Alumni Association. The NICRC’s main race is the 4400m head race around the Naples Island, which is then followed by the 850m Novice Sprints. The prize for winning the regatta is the perpetual Queen Mary Trophy and is awarded to the team with the most cumulative points.
Head of the Lagoon was started by a group of master rowers including Ron Hudson and Daryl Winter. It was named after the Monster from the Blue Lagoon movie, and was initially a one day regatta. HOTL has now grown to a two day regatta, hosting junior, collegiate, open, and master teams. This is a gently curving course through the Foster City Lagoon, which is carefully buoyed every year. It is free of currents and powerboats, making this regatta an interesting and competitive race. If you are in Newport Beach this morning come out to Lido Bridge and support the Men's and Women's crews by yelling at the top of your lungs! GO IRVINE! The crew will take on Orange Coast College, Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara for a timed chase around Lido Island.
The Varsity and Novice Men's Crews will participate in UCLA's fall head race this year. Boats start in Ballona Creek and finish in the Marina by the LMU boathouse. Parking will be at Dock 52 (located on Fiji Way just west of Admiralty Way), and shuttles will be provided to drive you to the boathouse.
Come down to Newport Harbor to support all the UCI Men's and Women's Crews! The best viewing is from the OCC Boathouse or Boy Scout Sea Base. Grab a coffee, mingle with alumni, scream "zot!"
