A novice bonding event. The athletes will run in the El Morro Hills doing a series of team building exercises to build camaraderie and show how in rowing teamwork wins races. We encourage alumni to come down and team up with the current novice oarsman in the workout.
Budge Collins II - Boat Christening - Saturday, November 18th - UCI Boathouse After racing has concluded at the Newport Chase we encourage you to stop by Shellmaker Island to watch Budge Collins christen our 2017 racing shell. This boat was purchased off-lease from the Senior World Championships. The Romanian Senior National Team knocked the defending Olympic Champions out of the A final in Sarasota this past month. We lucked out and got one of the best shells in the world and it’s all thanks to our combined alumni support and seat dedications. A special surprise is in store for any and all contributors to the new shell!
Limited seating for spectators of the 3rd Annual UC Challenge Cup is sold out onboard the Ocean Explorer. Experience the races like never before with light refreshments and a live webcast with real-time announcements of the action. The trophies will be handed over the gunwale of the boat to the winning crews, right there on the water! Please arrive at Davey's Locker to board the Ocean Explorer no later than 8 am on Saturday morning. The ship departs at 8:30 am and we will not hold for anyone running late!

UCI Rowing will host a “Learn to Row” program for the kids from Nicholas Academic Center (NAC). As you know, Dr. Henry T. Nicholas, III is our largest benefactor as well as one of the founders of the Academic Center. The NAC offers a free mentoring and academic program for underserved, inner-city students to build their abilities as they prepare for college. The program starts at 9 am and you are all welcome to drop by and lend your support.

We have a lot more capacity than last year, thanks to a small armada of private vessels ready and waiting to host spectating on the water for the premier all-UC event of the year! Please submit your RSVP as soon as possible and bring a print out of your confirmation for check in on the day of the event (will also accept a visual on your phone). Please arrive at the American Legion to pick up your wrist band and get boated no later than 7:30 am on Saturday morning March 2nd. The ships will depart two at a time beginning promptly at 8 am and we will not hold for anyone running late!

Sign up to reserve your space for on-the-water spectating at the finish line for the 2020 California Challenge Cup! The Ocean Explorer begins boarding at 10:45am and will be leaving the dock at Davey’s Locker (400 Main St , Newport Beach, Ca 92661) at 11 am sharp on Saturday Feb 29th. We will return to dock at around 1:15 pm after watching the Cup Finals from the finish line. You will be on a boat! Wear sensible shoes and prepare your wardrobe for possible chill or even rain. While we expect pleasant weather it can change quite suddenly! Parking Parking is available as usual at the Balboa Pier Lot. Also there will be a shuttle running back and forth continuously from the Balboa Pier Lot to Marina Park (1600 West Balboa Blvd. Newport Beach, Ca 92663), for the duration of the event if people want to park there. There will also be limited parking at Marina Park and the adjacent streets.
